Were your words ever true?

You once told me that
you loved me.
But then we were
apart for a long long time,
and now you say
"I still care for you".

But, my dear friend -
how can I believe you,
when what you say and what you do, do not match?
So how can I believe you my friend?
Were those words ever really true?
